Campaign on the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances
On August 30, 2021, Amal Center for Advocacy and Recovery, through the Shuaa al-Amal Office for Families of the Missing, organized a campaign on the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances. The campaign called for revealing the fate of those who are missing or forcibly disappeared in Assad regime prisons, and for affirming families’ right to truth, justice, and reparation.

Campaign Messages
The Syrian government and the international community must act urgently to uncover the fate of the missing and forcibly disappeared, and to release all detainees.
- On Human Rights Day, and in accordance with Article 5 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: “No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.”
- On 10/12 (Human Rights Day), and in line with Article 9: “No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile.”
- The right to truth is inalienable; it is a prerequisite for justice, fairness, and reparation.

Key Demands
- Immediate disclosure of the whereabouts and fate of the forcibly disappeared, and enabling families to access this information.
- Release of all arbitrarily detained persons, ensuring their safety and dignity.
- Ending torture and ill-treatment, and holding perpetrators accountable in line with international standards.
- Providing safe reporting and referral channels, along with legal, psychological, and social support for families.
